Dovetail Jaws 70mm – Precision 100 Chuck
These popular and extremely versatile jaws have two core work-holding modes. In compression mode the tapered internal edge of the jaws close around and grip a spigot that has been turned on the base of a bowl or vase. In expansion mode, the tapered external edge of jaws expand into a recess cut in the base of a workpiece. The grip is most powerful when the jaws form a true circle, ensuring maximum jaw edge contact with the workpiece. In compression mode the range is 60mm to 40mm with 40mm being a true circle and in expansion mode the range is 55mm to 75mm with 75mm being a true circle. These dovetail jaws also accept the faceplate ring for attaching bowl blanks and the screw chuck which is commonly used when turning goblets and candlesticks.
These jaws are machined from a special grade of medium-tensile steel, which is normally used for the manufacture of high performance turbo impellors, pistons and gears. Using this steel allows for closer tolerances during the manufacturing process which results in excellent concentricity to minimize vibration and to ensure that a chatter-free, super fine finish can be achieved by the woodturner. ©
