Infill Planes
Manufactured to British Standards, Rutlands® hand planes are recommended by discerning cabinetmakers and carpentry instructors for their superb construction, finish and performance. Using world leading manufacturing techniques, each precision ground plane represents a serious alternative to the premium brands produced in North America. An Infill plane is the perfect tool for fine and precise trimming of both end and cross grain. The planes use the reliable bedrock design that gives maximum stability and support for the cutting iron during use as the frog extends all the way to the sole to provide support at its cutting edge. The renowned design has a screw mechanism that allows the frog to be adjusted to adjust the mouth opening. It can be made narrow for fine shavings or opened for coarse material.
No 22 Infill Plane
This infill plane features an iron that is ground square and then set square and features a very fine mouth with limited movement for lateral adjustment, relying instead on the accuracy gained from the precision machined side walls and sole of the bronze casting. The deep wall sides offer excellent registration to ensure precision planing results and this plane is commonly used with shooting boards. A 42mm wide, 25° bevelled blade is seated at 20° within the plane, giving an effective angle of 45° for general purpose work. The plane has an overall length of 288mm and weighs 1.7kg.
Materials & Manufacturing
The plane body features a single bronze casting which is precision machined to ensure the soles are flat and square to the sides. The plane is fitted with a T10 high carbon steel tool blade which can take a keen edge, and that has been hardened to RC60-64 for maximum edge retention. The blade is held in position by a large bronze cap iron. The handles are made from solid bubinga wood which provides a firm and comfortable grip. ©
